Weekly Photo Challenge – Juxtaposition
This week’s photo challenge is based on another interesting theme – Juxtaposition!
I like to think a lot about things around me – I pay attention to little details but sometimes there are certain thing that do not come under my radar. I go to a friend’s house quite frequently but one rainy day while trying to capture the scenary, I realized that the construction was covering most part of the view from her window!
I did not notice it for over 3 months until the day I was looking at it from the display on my phone while capturing the photo!
Five months later, there is no scenic beauty visible from her window! It sort of tells the tale of how nature is fast disappearing from our lives. The sunrises, sunsets, rainbows, stars, moonlit nights are all hidden behind the shadows of sky-scrapers!
I also remember coming to Korea for the first time and looking for an apartment on top floors for a better view. And the first one that I saw was at the 33rd floor (in a 34-floor building), the building complex from the outside was overlooking the same hills that are visible in the photo above (at a different angle) but that particular ‘wing’ overlooked other skyscrapers. So all that was visible from the window was concrete and a construction site. I was so disappointed!
Luckily my dream came true and we got to live (for a short period of time) close to a river with a (small and disrupted but still beautiful) view of the mountains. And since our window faces east, I get to see the beautiful colors of dawn!
All of this may not mean anything to someone not connected to nature or not interested in ‘mundane’ things but this all means a lot to me! I am not against development, I love taking photos of beautifully designed tall buildings too. But let’s not forget to enjoy nature that is still around us and try to save it from disappearing!
