I love participating in photo challenges at WordPress and I usually post within the first two days of the challenge. This week it was different. I was in the process of making some major changes to the blog layout and design when I saw this latest Weekly Photo Challenge – Forward. My mind went blank every time I thought about it.
I did not want to post just anything for the sake of participating in the challenge. I kept thinking about various possibilities but nothing seemed to click. I did not want to divulge my personal struggles; strangely it seems like the obvious option today.
I am a slow starter but I give my 200% once I start doing something. I am extremely competitive; I mostly like to outdo myself and exceed my own expectations.
I was a very good student throughout my student years. I landed a great job. It all changed when I got married and moved to Sweden with my husband. I had to quit my job to be with him.
I tried to find a job many times after coming back from Sweden but the domain in which I had worked has a limited availability. Soon it was time to move to Korea. I thought of doing something from home. It wasn’t easy for me.
My options were – Youtube, Blogging, freelance writing, small business etc. Out of the all problems, the biggest one was that I was not very confident about my abilities in any of them.
I knew I couldn’t handle being scrutinized on Youtube, I had never written anything except essays in school during exams and I had no idea about blogging or running a business. Yay for me!
Blogging seemed to be the least dangerous outlet for me so I started a blog (2011). I did not have many supportive people around me so I could not find the courage to publicize it. I deleted it some time later. And I still had no idea about what to do with my life.
Finally in last quarter of 2012, when there were theories about the world’s end, I decided to start a blog. I had no idea what I was doing but I thought this was my last chance to do something. I was fed up with finding reasons about ‘Why I cannot do it”.
I started and dedicated plenty of hours to it everyday. I spent 80% of my waking time in reading, commenting, researching, writing. Luckily, I got a fairly good response to my blog “Beyond Beauty Tips” (called ‘Things To rave About’ since 1/May/2013). It gave me the confidence to try new things and interact with many wonderful and supportive people.
I finally shared my blog with my friends and publicized it on my Facebook. I enjoy blogging and strangely it seems like the most obvious thing to do for me now. My blog is still in its infancy (4 months old) but I see it going somewhere someday.
I can look up at my goal but I do not know how to reach there. All I can do is to just take one step FORWARD everyday and let the path lead me.
