I had been wanting to post about the books I was reading and write a mini review on them right from the beginning of this year. But somehow it got delayed. It is never too late to start.
So here is my review of the famous ‘Sex and the City‘ book by Candance Bushnell. Let’s get started.
I watched rerun of the series on TV in 2012 which is quite late considering the fact that it was aired for 6 years from 1998 to 2004. I had heard a lot about it but somehow had never watched it. I was not aware of the actual content but when I bought the book; I was expecting something entirely different. This is one of those rare cases, in my opinion, when the series is better than the book.
There are lot of really witty and smart pages in the book but they are separated by a lot of details about the life in the fast lane. I liked the series much more and thought that Carrie Bradshaw was a loveable character but the Carrie from the book did not really call out to me neither did Mr. Big. In fact I liked Aidan far more than Mr. Big so I was disappointed when I couldn’t find him in the book.
I was aware of the differences between the book and the TV series but somehow after one point there was no similarity in plot, line or even dialogues. It was not a bad read but since I have seen the series and watched the movies, I will remember the characters from the movie. The recurring characters in the book are few and not as memorable. The writing style of the author is however gripping.
I am not phased to read Candance Bushnell at all. She has a distinct way of writing and I will read her other works like Lipstick Jungle, One Fifth Avenue and The Carrie Diaries.
