Bongeunsa is 1200 year old temple located in Samseong-dong Gangnam-gu, Seoul. I have a special corner for Buddhism in my heart so my interest in visiting this temple is obvious. I visited it on a holiday last week. The statue of Maitreya Buddha was way more beautiful than what I had imagined after seeing the pictures on the internet.
The temple complex is divided in 12 parts: 001 Entrance – Gate of Suchness 002 Statues of the four celestial kings 003 Dharma King pavilion 004 Tangible Cultural Property of Seoul no. 64 005 Main Buddha Hall 006 Hall of Kshtigarbha, protector of the dead 007 Vulture Peak Hall 008 Hall of the Arctic, Hall of the Big Dipper 009 Great Statue of Maitreya Buddha 010 Tangible Property of Seoul No. 83 011 Bell Pavilion 012 Statue of Gwanseum-bosal (Bodhisattva of Compassion) by the water The temple was closed that day for all activity and so we could not go inside and click pictures (if allowed). A collage of the pictures we managed to take outside:
I love having “Laughing Buddha” statue in my house (yup I know Feng Shui) but somehow I did not have one in South Korea.
Of course I had to buy souvenirs and so I decided to buy a small Laughing Buddha Statue. I am so in love with it. It makes me smile!
I have compiled a Slideshow to document my visit to Bongeunsa, check it out! [youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fPtNCKVprU&feature=youtu.be]
