One of the most popular self-help book of all time – Think and Grow Rich – took the world by storm and even decades after its publication, it is increasing in popularity still. I came across this gem by Napolean Hill back in 2004. It was one of the 10 most recommended books at the library I had joined. I borrowed it on my first day itself. I read the whole book in three days rarely pausing to ponder about the meaning. I returned it to finally start borrowing the fiction books I had joined the library for!
Fast forward to 2011 when I read The Secret and came across the Law of Attraction. After reading that book, I realized that Think and Grow Rich had said something like that but in a different way and with far more information. So this time I bought the book and took a lot of time to think and reflect on everything I read. Naploean Hill became my hero!
I started searching for more books from him and came across a handful of his books some of which were released posthumously. One of them being – Outwitting the Devil.
I ordered the book and was super excited to read it. It had a different style and a wonderful concept. The book was a dialog between Napolean and the Devil. This manuscript of this book had been hidden since 1938 because it dealt controversial subject at the time.
The world was different and so were the values of the time but the knowledge and tips given in this book are timeless. Sharon Lechter’s notes and annotations make it easy for us (today’s generation) to connect with the book.

I think my expectations from this book were too high so I felt let down by the time I finished reading it. But the truth written in this book can be useful to the youth of today. I like a particular writing style so this book did not affect me as deeply as Think and Grow Rich. The gems of knowledge are distributed well in this book as Napolean Hill has talked to the devil and had him reveal how he manipulates us and makes us settle for less than our potential in lives!
I could not harness the full potential of the book due to my limited receptivity to the writing style used in this book but this book cane prove to be a wonderful tool for countless people especially the ones who love reading plays.
