I also keep a journal where I write quotes and poems that strike a chord with me. And now that I have a blog, I can share it with all of you and also keep my collection alive in cyberspace.
Today I am going to share one of my favorite poems called “The Victor” by C.W. Longenecker. (encountered while reading “You Can Win” by Shiv Khera)
The poem is so simple and on-the-spot that if I happen to be in doubt, I read it and do whatever I am having second opinions about. It works every single time for me and I’ve got some great results.
So here goes ‘The Victor’.
The Victor (by C.W. Longenecker)
If you think you are beaten, you are.
If you think you dare not, you don’t
If you like to win but think you can’t,
It’s almost a cinch you won’t.
If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost.
For out in the world we find
Success begins with a fellow’s will
It’s all in the state of mind.
If you think you are outclassed, you are.
You’ve got to think high to rise.
You’ve got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win the prize.
Life’s battles don’t always go
To the stronger or faster man.
But sooner or later, the man who wins
Is the man who thinks he can.
I love music and know hundreds of songs by heart (blogged about it here) but I was not into poems, heck I had never even written a poem myself (sad? I know). I only bothered about reading the poems included in my curriculum.
When I started reading inspirational books, I read a lot of poems that I really enjoyed reading like The Victor. And that is how I got interested in poems. I will be blogging about some other favorite poems of mine in the future. I hope you were inspired by reading this poem.
Have you read it before? Do you write poetry? If yes, please share with me
