I love participating in Weekly Photo Challenges at WordPress and I eagerly wait every Saturday morning for the new theme. I was a little amused after seeing this latest Weekly Photo Challenge – KISS.
The reason behind my apprehension (underneath amusement) was that PDA is not encouraged in my culture; not even in weddings where the groom kisses the wife after the ceremony in other cultures.
I am neither in favor nor against PDA and I am not saying people don’t do it at all (in India), it’s just that it is not as open and welcome as in many other western countries.
So this week’s theme was a little more challenging for me (I didn’t even have an animal kissing pic) and I decided to add some less than obvious KISSES in my post.
A kiss is a lovely trick designed by nature to stop speech when words become superfluous. – Ingrid Bergman
This picture was taken in August 2010 in Stockholm, Sweden. We had walked through Skansen, an open air museum (must see) in Sweden, and were dead tired when we decided to take rest. We did not even have the energy to talk so we just sat on a bench and let our legs stretch out.
We sat there for about 15 minutes and then he looked at me, I knew it was time to get up and go. It was in this moment when I realized that we had started communicating without words.
Isn’t kissing another form of communication without words?
A kiss is a rosy dot over the ‘i’ of loving.

When I was little, we used to watch a movies on TV especially on weekends and since my father held the remote, we usually watched the Bollywood movies from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and occasionally the 80’s.
Kissing was a taboo even on screen for many years so when the directors had to convey a kissing scene, (s)he focused on two flowers (usually roses) or birds which would rub gently against each other and everyone instantly knew something romantic is going on in the background.
Of course in Bollywood there’s never a love/romance scene without a song. And this song sequence was shot in gardens where the roses and the rose-rubbing as easier to perform and explain.
Note: I had not watched any Hollywood movies by then.
Kissing is a means of getting two people so close together that they can’t see anything wrong with each other.

I clicked this image a few days ago, believe me it was an honest mistake. The couple sitting there was just talking when I focused my camera (probably on a bird) but by the time I clicked, there was a little romantic moment at my hands. Since the couple is not identifiable in this picture, I decided to keep it.
My favorite KISS Quote by far!
Never a lip is curved with pain that can’t be kissed into smile again.
– Brete Harte
I hope you liked my interpretation of KISS.
