YouTube has not been around for a decade in my life but I now cannot imagine my life without it! I have found “friends”, recipes, makeup tips, fun and motivation on this platform. Of course the concept of haters is not alien to me but I tend to focus on the positives. If it had not been for YouTube, I might never have made perfect Samosas without the tips from Tarla Dalal, I would never have known LORAC Pro palette if my favorite YouTuber had not raved about it etc. I have been watching YT videos for a little over 4 years now and I am hooked. Now the question comes, why didn’t I start my own channel then?
I did in December 2013 but for the longest time, I always shrugged off the idea of starting my channel. And it all boils down to one thing – I did not think I could add anything to the existing dialogue in the YT community. And frankly I wasn’t sure how I would be received so out of fear, I remained an outsider.
But one fine day in late December 2013, I realized I did not want to live with what ifs, I did not want to live in fear and I wanted to challenge myself. It took me 10 days to upload my first video and for the first 5-6 videos, I remained behind the camera and did not show my face. I was still not sure if YouTube was for me. Honestly, I am still not sure but I am more confident in front of the camera. I have slowly started to relax while talking abut products and luckily I have even built a tiny community! Last year this time I could never have imagined I would take the plunge but I am glad I did. Whether I continue doing YouTube videos or not, I will never be the same!
Here are a few of my videos in case you want to check them out:
If you are debating to start a YouTube channel, I would say go for it. It is a unique ride. I had never noticed how I say certain things and how I sound on camera until I edited my first video. Of course I am more aware of my flaws now, thanks to my HD videos but that is also a part of this journey! I am loving it at the moment and I hope to improve my editing (and directing) skills with every video 🙂
